Antique Diamond Cross pendant. Rose cut diamonds. +/- 18kt yellow gold. Early Georgian. Circa 1750. European. Rare.

This is an especially Rare and fine antique early Georgian period rose cut diamonds and gold cross pendant, circa 1750, Continental European origin. This piece exemplifies the jewelry design and techniques of its time period, and would have been owned and worn by only the wealthiest people of the that time. It is set with 10 classic early rose cut diamonds. The center diamond is a table rose cut. The weight cannot be reliably estimated, but I guess 1+ carats. The standard GIA color and clarity grades cannot be determined, but they are typical of the rose cut diamonds found in the fine quality jewelry of the period. The cross is in exceptionally good condition, even more so considering it is approximately 250 years old. It is wonderfully fortunate that this rare jewel has been preserved. it measures approximately 1.75 inches by 1.25 inches. The gold tests slightly weak with 18kt acid, and very strong with 14kt acid. The pendant bale is slightly open and can be easily closed once the choice of chain has been decided. The 4 tiny rose cut diamonds are set in silver florets on top of gold. BTW, this pendant is GORGEOUS! sku 4049i
