Victorian period antique sapphire and 18kt yellow gold sapphire stick pin, circa 1870. It is set with a 0.71 ct beautiful blue sapphire with a GIA report indicating that it is all-natural unheated and the country of origin is Cambodia. Before the discovery of sapphires in Kashmir circa 1881, Cambodia was considered to be the source of the world's finest sapphires. GIA describes the shape of the sapphire as "near-round" and it has a slightly cushion outline. This sapphire has an exceptional blue color and fine internal clarity. It has some isolated bits of surface wear that I am not able to detect with the unaided eye. A pin with a sapphire of this caliber from the source of the finest sapphires of the time would likely have been worn by a highly fashionable well-to-do man or woman. The pin is 2.75 inches long. The sapphire is in a buttercup setting measuring approximately 7.5mm in diameter. The original GIA report is included with the purchase. SKU 4095i .
