My commentary and elaboration:
This diamond is loose (not set), and all natural (as indicated by the GIA report). The cut is typically referred to in the diamond trade as an old European cut. It may also be referred to as antique, vintage, early, or old round brilliant cut. It has the same number and type of facets as current round brilliants. Having been cut in the 1800s, It differs from most current round brilliant cut diamonds in certain proportions such as the length of the pavilion facets, the size of the culet, and the size of the table. These differences in proportions are a matter of degree, not a matter of facet shape, facet type, or number of facets. It is the proportions that give the older cutting style its distinctive appearance. The approximate time period of the original cutting of this diamond is the mid to later 1800s.
